Air Arabia and Bee’ah, the Sharjah Environment Co., sign MoU agreement

11 January 2015

Air Arabia, the first and largest low-cost carrier (LCC) in the Middle East and North Africa, and Bee’ah, the Sharjah Environment Co., the Middle East’s leading and award-winning fully integrated environmental and waste management company, today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) agreement.

The MoU will have Air Arabia and Bee’ah collaborate and share knowledge and expertise in a number of key areas relating to both commercial activities and corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects. As part of its dedication to the environment, Air Arabia will work with Bee'ah to enhance its green credentials, augmenting its programme of recycling and waste disposal. It is anticipated that the MoU will encourage sustainable environmental practices in order to help engender a more prosperous and greener Sharjah.

As part of the MoU, Bee’ah will install three stream recyclers and cylindrical bins at Air Arabia head offices, encouraging people to become more environmentally friendly and to promote recycling. In addition, the company’s staff will organise and schedule collection of all waste and recyclables from Air Arabia’s Hangar and Operations Office, to the highest possible standards. Bee'ah will also run workshops and other awareness-raising educational initiatives to encourage environmental sustainability among Sharjah's population.

Air Arabia will also partner with Bee’ah on its charity walkathon, while a number of other CSR initiatives are currently being planned, specifically in the sphere of education and environmental awareness. The MoU between the two Sharjah-headquartered businesses was signed at a unique ceremony following an insightful tour of Bee’ah's cutting-edge waste management facilities. Bee’ah's Waste Management Centre is currently the region’s largest collection of waste segregation and processing facilities.

Commenting on the MoU, Adel A. Ali, Group Chief Executive Officer of Air Arabia, said: “The Memorandum of Understanding is a unique collaboration between two leading companies based in Sharjah. We take great pride in implementing sustainable practices and remain committed to ensuring that we manage and recycle our waste in a manner which is sustainable and environmentally friendly. We look forward to strengthening our partnership with Bee'ah in both the commercial field and through joint CSR programmes, which can have a real positive impact on the local community of Sharjah.”

Ali Added: “In partnering with Bee’ah, Air Arabia is demonstrating its commitment to the promotion of sustainable environmental development initiatives, which can create a more prosperous and greener environment in Sharjah. We believe that the implementation of the Reduce, Reuse and Recycle awareness campaign will also encourage our employees to consider their own personal impact on the environment”.

Khaled Al Huraimel, Group Chief Executive Officer of Bee’ah, said: “Bee’ah is proud to have signed the Memorandum of Understanding with a leading carrier such as Air Arabia. Signing this agreement is an indication of our dedicated focus to provide sustainable solutions. This new milestone reflects the responsibility that both Bee’ah and Air Arabia share towards the environment”.

Al Huraimel added: “This agreement will have a positive impact on the local community of Sharjah, and we look forward to cooperating with Air Arabia in many areas related to waste and recycling collection, corporate social responsibility and environmental awareness”.
