If you only have a short amount of time to devote to sightseeing while in Venice, riding a vaporetto up the Grand Canal will give you the best perspective on the “real” Venice. There are several times and places at which you could board for a pleasant experience.
St. Mark’s Square is one of the most visited and most photographed places in Venice, and for a reason. It is lit up at night and, if you can make it out in the late evening, you will find that most or all other tourists have left it empty for a truly spectacular experience and an excellent opportunity to take photos.
You will pass by the Peggy Guggenheim Museum while riding the Vaporetto but do not leave Venice until you have been to see this museum’s gorgeous sculpture garden and collection of art featuring many renown artists including Picasso.
